View the SMART Notebook Product Update software window
1. This is done either automatically once a month or can be initiated by going to SMART Notebook > Help > Check for Updates and Activiations
Choose to Update SMART Notebook software
Choose Yes to allow the following product updates will be installed:
Choose (when it pops up) to allow the SMART Notebook from SMART Inc to makes changes to your computer.
Wait for the downloading to start and being installing
Choose the Installer software in the task bar
Check the box for “I have read and accept the terms of use” after you have read the terms of use
Choose NEXT
Wait for the installtion to complete
Choose Finish when the install completes
Wait and SMART product update will verify that the software installation is complete
Wait for SMART Product Updating software to run again and share that your software is up-to-date
Exit all updates and other software.
Use SMART Notebook 16.1

(at home or to reinstall it on a computer)

Close all open applications
Open your web browser to www.smarttech.com/software
Scroll and find SMART Notebook collaborative learning software
Select Download
Provide the license key (please contact Tech Department for detail)
Select SMART Notebook 16.1
Confirm your operating system, select Windows
Select USB Installer
Select Download
If prompted, download the file to your downloads folder, select Save.
The file is fairly large and could take up to 10 minutes or more to download over slower connections.

Close all open applications
Open your Downloads folder
Scroll to find the file named, “smart16-1-usb.exe”
Double-click to launch the installer software
The Education Software 2016 window will open, uncheck the option to Check for newer versions of the software before installing, select Next
Select I accept the terms in the license agreement, select Next
Select Next
Check all four options for SMART Notebook, Response, Product Drivers, and Ink; select Next
Check both options for SMART System Menu and SMART Response Desktop Menu; select Next
Uncheck Make SMART ink Document Viewer the default PDF viewer, select Next
Uncheck Enable the Customer Experience Program on all devices, select Next
Check Lesson Activity Toolkit and all options for the Gallery Essentials, select Next
Select any additional languages, select Next
Select Install. Depending on the speed of your computer, this process takes 5-10 minutes.
When the installation completes, you will be prompted to Activate your software, select Finish.

The SMART Software Activation window will open, select Add
Type the Product Key (please contact Tech Department for detail) select Add
Check I accept the terms in the license agreement, select Next
Check Submit request automatically (recommended), select Next

From the desktop, double-click the SMART Notebook 16 icon
SMART Notebook will launch and open the Tutorial for SMART Notebook 16.1 file.

SMART has recently redesigned its licensing model to focus on subscriptions and users rather than product keys and activated computers. This simplified subscription model is available for Notebook 17 and later (17.1 recommended) through SMART’s new software portal.

If you’re a system administrator, you no longer need a product key to activate Notebook software on each user’s computer, provided you install or upgrade users to Notebook 17 or later (17.1 recommended) and add each user’s SMART account email address to your school’s subscription in the new portal. After you add users to your school’s subscription, they can sign in to their accounts to use SMART Notebook software on any computer or device where it is installed—the SMART Notebook activation is no longer linked to a specific computer.

If a user has not been added to the new software portal or is using an earlier version of SMART Notebook, the system administrator enters a product key to activate Notebook software on the user’s computer.

To set users up in the new portal
